Product Description
This is a SEW-ON Scottish Royal Standard flag patch. The Royal Standard is the flag used by members of the Scottish royal family or those representing them. It is different than the national flag of Scotland (See our St. Andrew's Cross Patch). The main feature of the flag is the red rampant lion in the center. This heraldic symbol can be traced back to 1222 as its first use on a Scottish Royal Flag. This doesn't mean that you can't use this patch to show your Scottish Pride! It could also be used as a way to remember a trip to Scotland. Either way, this patch looks great and will make anything embellished with it stand out.

Our SEW-ON patches are great for personalizing any item. These can include (but are in no way limited to) your jeans, jacket, backpack, messenger bag, sweatshirt, or hat. Or you may just want to add to your patch collection.

Each of our patches is cut by hand and then embroidered. This means that each one may look just a little different, but not much.

Approximate size: 3.85"w x 2.95"h

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
The earliest recorded use of the rampant Lion as a royal emblem in Scotland was by Alexander II in 1222. The boarders were added during the reign of Alexander III (1249-1286). This symbol occupied the royal coat of arms of the ancient Kingdom of Scotland and was used by the King of Scots until the Union of the Crowns in 1603, when James VI took the thrones of the England and Ireland. Since then the Lion of Scotland has been incorporated into both the royal arms and banners of successive Scottish then British monarchs in order to symbolize Scotland.
