I felted lime green wool for the brooch base, and embellished it with various shades of lime green and purple seed beads. Lime green vintage sequins put the finishing touch on this one of a kind piece.

The brooch measures about 2 inches wide and 1-3/4 inches tall.

Bead embroidery on felted wool is one of my favorite creative outlets. I'm attracted to the warm and fuzzy-ness that is felted wool, and fascinated with the visual and tactile juxtaposition of shiny hard glass and soft matte wool.

I use many different colors and types of seed beads (and a few vintage sequins) to work bead embroidery. I usually start by dumping out my bead stash and putting all the "possibilities" into a pile. Then I start taking out the beads that just don't go with what I have in mind.

Making a bead-embroidered piece is an intuitive process for me - I never really know how a piece will turn out until it's done!
