Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
"Sauvies Island" is an interpretive landscape captured on Sauvies Island during the summer of 1975. The fauvish color palette is evocative of impressionist works from the last century and in particular my grandfather, Clyde Leon Keller Sr., who was well known as one of Oregon's premier impressionist oil painters. Sauvies Island held a particular fascination for him; he is highly regarded for his prolific love for this scenic island, first visited by him in the early twentieth century-- he returned to paint there for nearly fifty years through 1959 and worked on unfinished canvasses until his death in 1961.

This poetic image is included in a larger documentary project concerning the beauty, folk and history of the inhabitants of the pacific Northwest.
