This custom hand beaded and hand embroidered guitar strap is shimmering iridescent copper brown Dupioni silk embroidered with a Celtic Cross in dark brown and cream embroidery thread and beaded at each thread intersection with a pearl bead. The entire cross is then outlined in copper metallic embroidery thread, giving the image a stylized Book of Kells illustration appearance. The silk fabric changes color from red to brown to gold, depending on the angle of the light. The strap is lined on the back with caramel satin and the leather tabs are brown premium suede leather.

There is so much to tell you about this strap and I hope I don't bore you. The Celtic Cross is an amalgamation of a Gaelic pre-Christian pagan life affirming symbol and the Christian Cross, also a profound life affirming symbol. They were made of either wood or stone, intricately carved in deep relief. The interwoven lines are an art style brought to the British Isles by the Romans and adapted and incorporated into Gaelic art, which was in turn adapted and incorporated by the Christian church. I wanted this strap to take on a wood hue primarily because gray is not very visually interesting and there are so few wooden Celtic Crosses still in existence. When I make a Christian guitar strap, I try to merge simplicity with subtle complexity. While the image itself appears simple, hopefully the totality of the visual impact of the strap is not at all simple.

CONSTRUCTION - The guitar strap foundation is 3 inch wide (7.62 centimeters) and 6 foot long (1.83 meters) 2000-pound test commercial grade polypropylene strap material. The strap adjusts from a maximum length of 6 feet (1.83 meters) to a minimum length of 39 inches (.99 meters).

LEATHER TABS - The leather tabs are comprised of a 3 inch by 8 inch section of top quality leather, folded over a commercial grade plastic anchor bar and trimmed to shape. The two sides of the leather are then glued with commercial strength tanner glue and double whip stitched with heavy waxed leather sewing thread designed specifically for stitching leather. The button hole is hand punched and cut to precisely fit a standard 12mm guitar pin.
