This unique red and blue Medieval Shield necklace was sculpted by hand in polymer clay. The shield has a red background and a brown center. A red cross stamped with filigree is centered in the middle. I used deep purple glass paint to outline the cross and secured a red glass bead in the center of the cross. Royal blue stamped leaf shapes add a real pop of color to the edges of the shield. I added gold metal leaves around the cross as well. The shield is sealed with a high gloss glaze. It has a gold chain with a lobster clasp and the entire necklace measures 23 inches (to the bottom tip of the shield).

This is my second entry for the Polymer Clay Smooshers guild Medieval Challenge. Once again the guild inspired me to try new things. After browsing through much Medieval imagery, I put together this shield, which is my own design, inspired by common themes. Although it is somewhat large it's actually quite lightweight and sits comfortably around your neck.
