Product Description
This is Scorch, the Rockin' Dragon. This large sculpture measures 14" tall and 18 1/2" long. Scorch and his guitar were sculpted by hand in polymer clay over the course of more than a month. He stands on a black wooden base, which I've signed and dated on the bottom. This sculpture weighs about 7 lbs. Scorch has thousands of scales, each individually cut out of red sparkle and black clay. His head fringe, tail fringe, and beard were made with black clay sandwiched between two layers of bright green clay. I used red sparkle beads for his eyes. His underbelly is covered in plates of yellow clay with a black border. He has long yellow claws which are playing a handsculpted, wood grain guitar. I worked very hard to make the guitar as authentic as possible. I used beading wire for the strings and silver clay for the tuners. Under his hind foot is a clay stomp box. His other foot is propped up on an amplifier made from plaster and painted black. I used a piece of screen framed with wood for the front of the amp. This is a one of a kind piece of fantasy artwork that would impress any dragon lover!
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
This sculpture was inspired by a poster my husband got from the guitar store. It all started with a simple "Wouldn't it be cool if you made this dragon?" . What followed was weeks of labor intensive sculpting, cutting of scales, and figuring out how to make guitars, amps, and effects pedals. Everything was modeled off of things my husband has. I made sure to securely attach the dragon to the heavy wooden base. This is the largest sculpture I've ever attempted, and I'm quite proud of the way Scorch turned out.
