This is a very unique piece- a Steampunk Pirate Cat sculpture with large metallic wings, sculpted by hand in polymer clay. The cat stands 10 inches tall and has a wingspan of 12 1/2 inches. I used a foil and wire armature and made sure this was a very sturdy piece. The fur was textured, then painted a silver gray with black stripes. This pirate cat was modeled after my Maine Coone cat, Calcifer, and has the furry mane and large fluffy tail. He also has green glass eyes, one is covered by a silver eye patch. This feline pirate is also a time traveler and can fly to any time or place with his wings and time traveling watch. The wings took days to make and both sides are covered with textured polymer clay feathers which I brushed with different colors of Pearl Ex powders. Of course every pirate needs a weapon, and this one carries a vintage pirate capgun. He's just taken the very powerful Time Crystal, which dangles from his left paw. This one of a kind sculpture took a long time to complete, and you can see the piece being created if you click on the BLOG tab at the top of the page. I added as much detail and personality as I could to this creation.

This sculpture has a lot of inspirations behind it's creation. Being modeled after my cat Calcifer, of course he's an inspiration. He would love to be able to fly, which is why I made the wings. He's also blind in his left eye, hence the eye patch. Of course the Steampunk trend in general inspired this, with shows like Dr. Who and movies like the Time Machine having their influence. And there's an artist on ArtFire called DesertRubble- her use of Pearl Ex powders on her Steampunk hummingbirds and dragonflies inspired the look of the wings. This piece was an absolute labor of love.
