This one of a kind Lion Fish Mermaid was sculpted by hand in polymer clay and features glow in the dark fins and accents. The sculpture measures 9 1/2 inches long and 8 inches tall. All the fins were sculpted from glow in the dark polymer clay, with the stripes and spots appliqued to the fin before baking. The spots on the mermaids body are acrylic paint over glow in the dark clay. The mermaids hair is a combination of brown, gold, and glow in the dark clay twisted together. I accented the undersides of her fins with glow in the dark paint. She has blue gray glass doll eyes. I sealed the mermaid with high gloss glaze for a wet look. The rocks and shells decorating the textured clay base are real. Ive covered the bottom of the base with felt, which Ive signed and dated. This unique fantasy sculpture would make a very special gift.

It started with a simple challenge, the Ocean Challenge from my Polymer Clay Smooshers guild, to be exact. I had planned on making a more traditional mermaid, but then I happened across a painting of a Lion Fish Mermaid (thats what I call it, anyway) while online. As soon as I saw the picture I knew I had to try to sculpt her (in my own style, of course).
