Alau Island is off the coast of Maui, Hawaii near Hana. This black and white photograph is like having a view of your own private island.

This makes a fantastic pairing with the Hana Beach Rocks photo. Be sure to see the featured Sale listing for the pair: if you buy both photos, you save 20%.

From an Ektachrome original. Printed on 13 x 19 paper with white borders. Mounted on 16 x 20 mat. (See shipping notes and store policies for more info on matting.) Signed and dated using no-acid archival ink.

I will print this as a 5 x 7, 8 x 10, or 11 x 14 on request. Contact me if you are interested.

Printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper using Epson UltraChrome K3 pigment inks. This paper was designed to resemble the traditional fiber-based photo paper used for decades by professional photographers.

Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. rates this paper/ink combination as stable for over 200 years if framed with standard glass and over 250 years framed with UV glass. Compare this to traditional gelatin silver prints, which last 50 to 100 years only if NOT exposed to light. Exposed to light, traditional gelatin silver photos remain stable for only 20 to 40 years. Traditional photographic printing processes also involved the use of many toxic chemicals.

The image shown is a low-resolution, watermarked copy. The final print is made from the high-resolution original file, with no watermark.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

The road leading to Hana is as much of an experience as the place itself, full of blind curves and single-lane bridges to keep you on the edge of the driver's seat. Most people get to Hana and immediately turn around and leave. I'm so glad I decided to spend the night because I woke up and wandered down to the beachfront outside my bungalow to discover a black sand beach with an incredible view of one of the small islands off the coast of Maui.

Materials Used

Ektachrome slide film
