Product Description
This listing is for an 8x10 fine art photograph of trees at the edge of a snowy field. The photo was taken during a long Illinois winter, years ago, not far from where I was living at the time. I remember noticing this scenic landscape on my way home, the trees backlit against the sky and the dramatic cloud formations. Once I reached the house, I grabbed my camera so I could drive back out and capture an image of this particular quality of light before it was gone. Nature never waits for the artist.

The mood of this picture may seem somewhat dark, but I find the stark atmosphere really peaceful and evocative. Midwestern winters can be harsh, but they bring their own brand of beauty. The palette of the image is a range of blues, violet, peach, salmon, a hint of yellow, dark brown, and black.

This is a perfect piece of art to hang in a home office or living room, or anyplace where you need to create a little bit of serenity from time to time.

MATERIALS
Printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper using Epson UltraChrome K3 pigment inks. This paper was designed to resemble the traditional fiber-based photo paper used for decades by professional photographers.

Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. rates this paper/ink combination as stable for 90 years if framed with standard glass and 150 years framed with UV glass. Compare this to traditional silver-halide color prints, which last 50 to 100 years only if NOT exposed to light. Exposed to light, traditional color photos remain stable for only 20 to 40 years. Traditional photographic printing processes also involved the use of many toxic chemicals.

COLOR and RESOLUTION
The image shown is a low-resolution, watermarked copy. The final print is made from the high-resolution original file, with no watermark. The image here was color-corrected on a calibrated monitor to correctly represent the finished print. Please use the gray-scale image to gauge whether your monitor has a color cast which will interfere with your accurate viewing of the file.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
I often find myself making images of trees, and I don't really know what part of my subconscious is responsible. I feel certain that there is some deep experience or emotion in my history, which is nevertheless quite common in the history of humanity as a whole, and which defines how we respond to the way trees look. Perhaps it is the naturally fractal nature of their structures, and we are responding to the elegant mathematical formulations made visible. Perhaps it is because the structure of trees resembles the structures of our own nervous system. I just know that whenever I draw a tree, there is something that seems deeply logical and satisfying about how the roots and branches balance each other out, and the rough radial symmetry of the branches.
