The colors are the natural patinas produced by slow heating. I first cut the pieces by hand, then file and buff the edges with steel wool to ensure a smooth finish. As I heat the copper it changes from coppery pink to purple to blue to green and so on through the color spectrum.......I can stop at any time and create the starburst effect through torch-tip control. I then polish the backs to raw copper and give both sides 3 coats of clear lacquer to prevent further oxidation and to give them a durable gloss finish. Finally they get a coat of car wax to protect the surfaces against skin oils and acids.

If you place the seven visible colors of the rainbow in order in a circle, the ones opposite each other are known as complementaries and when they are put side-by-side they vibrate off each other......think of orange leaves physically and visually quivering against the background of a blue autumn sky..........all of this is simply a long-winded way of suggesting that these earrings are a natural for redheads!
