Amethyst, February's birthstone, is a variety of quartz. It is considered an aid for healing or awakening of the soul, a meditative and calming stone, helping increasing spirituality and psychic powers, as well as providing aid in dealing with addictions. In ancient times it was believed to protect the wearer from poison. It is to this day worn by Catholics bishops, as it is supposed to bring the wearer wisdom. The purple comes from iron or manganese impurities.

This necklace has a raw point of amethyst dangling from a twisted swirl of sterling silver wire, and strung with rounds of amethyst in varying sizes and shades from smokey grey to bright purple. It can be worn from 19" to 23", depending on where the sterling lobster clasp is hooked in the linked finishing chain.
