Bold, gorgeous, and chunky Tibetan blue turquoise rondelle nugget necklace. The source of this turquoise is Tibet, China. Each turquoise bead is approximately 16mm by 18mm which are shaped by hand into rondelle shapes. Thickness of each turquoise bead is about 5mm. Since these beads are hand cut the size of each bead will slightly vary giving this necklace a unique look. There are 60 shiny round sterling silver 5mm beads that makeup this necklace which are used to complement the blue turquoise. The necklace is completed by 2 ½ inches of dark brown heishe shell 5mm beads so that the necklace lays comfortably around your neck. The necklace is completed by a sterling silver lobster claw clasp. Necklace is 24 inches long.

Turquoise from mines in China accounts for about 80% of the stone on the U.S. market today, due to the scarcity of American turquoise. Only a handful of turquoise mines in the American southwest are commercially operating. Chinese Turquoise is similar to American Turquoise in that the mines produce Turquoise in almost every color and matrix variation.

Chinese turquoise is good quality turquoise and is less expensive because of the lower costs of mining turquoise in China. Chinese turquoise is a little softer than our native turquoise so it is commonly stabilized; meaning that an epoxy resin is applied to help harden the stone and also help protect the stone from body oils.

The Tibetans have preferred turquoise to any other gemstone. Many Tibetans possesses some turquoise. It is believed to be a good luck stone. It is worn set in rings and bracelets, as beads in necklaces, and as adornments directly on hats and other clothing.
