Wrapped in copper, this African green opal gemstone pendant with its earthy tones of greens and browns is a perfect choice for accessorizing either your casual or business outfit.

The wire wrapped pendant has a diameter of about 1.75 inches (45 mm) and 2.50 inches (64 mm) in length as measured from the top of its bail.

The copper wrap frames the pendant and extends upward to cascades of copper swirls and ends by forming a bail that will easily accommodate a necklace with a diameter of about .25 inches (6 mm).

African green opal gemstone beads are a type of chalcedony which is a form of quartz with crystals so small they can't be seen except with high magnification. The stone has gained recognition because of its rich, earthy tones of swirling browns and greens with creamy beige, and at times it has been mistaken for a green turquoise.

The gemstone I used for this pendant has several cream colored veins that may, at first glance, appear to be cracks. However these veins are a part of the stone's natural coloring. African green opal is a hard and durable stone however it does have several small surface imperfections. Rather than distracting from its beauty, these imperfections actually enhance its earthy appearance.

The brown and green tones of this pendant are a perfect match for copper. As the copper gains a natural patina the blending of stone and metal seem right. It's easy to visualize this piece of jewelry on a longer necklace worn with a turtle neck shirt or sweater and just as easy to imagine it on a shorter necklace with a v-neck or scooped neckline. Match it with a natural fiber jacket, suede perhaps, for a winning combination.
