Here is a work of art to carry around on your arm!

I have an obsession with perfume bottles and their shapes and colors, and decided to do a collage of magazine pictures onto fabric, to incorporate my love of collage and sewing.

I laid out the collage on the duck fabric with a temporary glue, and added bits of hairy yarns and other fibers, along with sequins and metallic threads to give the surface a more glitzy appeal.

I also added words and phrases that would appeal to women of all ages.

I then placed a medium weight clear vinyl over each fabric section, and stitched randomly, both vertically and horizontally to hold the papers and embellishments in place.

Then the bag was assembled...sort of felt like I was sewing a cardboard box, as the vinyl has a mind of its own!

The finished purse measures 14" along the base, and is 3" deep. It stands 9 1/4" tall, and opens to 10" across the top. Handles are made of duck cloth and measure 17", end to end.

The top edge is covered with a wide polyester rick-rack, which is hand stitched in place. The lining is a cotton fabric in browns, black and burnt orange to match the colors in the collage.
