The picot gauge is a measuring device used while tatting to create picots of an exact size. This might be for a design element, or for beading, joining, or just because you want your picots to be all the exact same size.

I dont use mine very often when I am just tatting regularly, but I love them for tatting that has graduated picots or other fancy picot lengths as part of the design. They are also absolutely invaluable for bead work in tatting - especially when you need extra long picots to load beads on when joining.

The thirteen gauges included in the set are made with heavy card stock, marked with the measurement on each one, and strung together at the base. This makes them easy to pick up and use one at a time as needed, like measuring spoons. With care, Ive used my set for several years now. Included are the following lengths:
