Product Description
One-of-a-kind mosaic featuring a scene from Lewis Carroll's beloved story, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This piece took about 60 hours to design and carry out. Appearing here are Alice, the Queen of Hearts, a hedgehog, a flamingo, and the Cheshire Cat hiding in the treetop.
The main materials of this piece are glass seed beads, bugle beads and weld-bond. The hedge in the background, the clouds and the heart and square details on the front of the queen's dress are made of tiny glass spheres - sort of a cross between beads and glitter.
Shipping cost noted below is a placeholder only - Please discuss your preferred method of shipping with me prior to purchase and I will work up an estimate based on your location. I must insist on insurance and tracking but beyond that it is the buyer's choice
The frame it is currently in is NOT included in this auction. The viewable size of this picture is 15 3/8" x 19 3/8". It's full size does extend beyond that for framing purposes.
Some details are painted in acrylic due to the size- the black details of the queen and alice's faces (other than the underside of the queen's nose),the black on the Queen's hand that holds the hedgehog, the line between Alice's arms, and her apron pocket. The blue of the sky is also painted as I ran out of time before this project was due! I am willing to complete the sky in beads for a further cost of $55 upon your request.
This piece is approximately 5 years old and has seen some wear during moves. I have taken photos detailing the missing beads I could spot, please look them over carefully.I am able to replace the red, white and green ones upon sale but I don't have any of the others on hand. For the cost of materials I am willing to take this in to the craft store, look for a color and size match and make the
repair(it requires me to buy a vial of beads for each missing color.)
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
This mosaic was my final project of my first year of art school. I was inspired after seeing a segment on TV about the world's largest bead art and decided to take a crack at something similar.I used Plexiglas as the basis for this piece because originally I wanted it to be displayable illuminated from behind. I ended up painting the back for better color strength on the beads that are transparent so it is best displayed in a frameOnce the design was decided I started stringing thousands of seed beads by hand. I taped the design to the back of the clear Plexiglas and began the arduous task of filling in the lines with row upon row of weld-bond glue with beads set in to it. I planned to do another one of these based on the mad hatter and march hare's tea party. The character designs are done - please inquire if you are interested in comissioning this scene.
