Product Description

Gorgeous vintage Japanese red millefiori teardrop shaped beads from the early 1980s!

Each bead is approximately 21mm x 9.5 mm and because they are handmade, the pattern of flowers will vary some from bead to bead but I will match the 4 your purchase.

Millifiori literally means Ã¢ÂEURÂœthousand flowersÃ¢ÂEURÂ. To make such beads, thin rods of different colors of glass are bundled together, with the ends of the rods forming a design, such as flowers. The bundle is fused together, then cross section slices are cut off, jelly-roll fashion. These slices are applied and melted over a glass core. The resulting bead has a three dimensional look filled with flowers or other patterns.

We actually bought these beads in London during the mid 1980s where they had been imported from a little factory in Japan.

Price is for 4 beads and we guarantee them to be 100% vintage and imported from Japan.

I sold many of these Japanese millifiori glass beads through the Smithsonian Institutions museum shop and mail order catalog during the 1980s and they were also featured in trunk shows at Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue during this same time period.
