Look there, the gull, the watcher soaring!
The sandpipers picnicking at the waters edge...
The swimming creatures painted,
for a moment,
with a blaze of brilliant sunlight...
The shell, the “beauty,”
a magnificent fortress;
its tenant surly proud.
The sea;
now -
a roar of rumbling kettle drums -
a clash of cymbals;
now-
pianissimo,
a gentle lullaby.
And on the shore,
a castle,
sculptured in the sand,
too soon vanished,
erased by tides these mortal traces.
But -
still remains -
the gull,
the watcher,
