This butterfly weed grows easily here in our South Louisiana gardens. It attracts many species of butterflies. Not only do they use it as a nectar source, but the beautiful monarch butterflies love to lay their eggs on it. The young develop on the plant as they eat the leaves and soft branches. They usually move a short distance away when they are ready to weave their crysalis or cocoon. Our three year old grandson spotted the crysalis on a branch of a nearby rosemary plant and it is captured in one of my photos.
