This is a gorgeous cabochon of Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper, set with two dazzling Pyrope Garnets in Sterling Silver.

The pendant is attached to two separate hand made Fine Silver chains with small S hooks. The two chains join behind the neck with a large Sterling S hook.

When worn as a necklace, the length is the same as if one was wearing a pendant on a 21 inch chain. It can be worn shorter by inserting the ends of the S hook further into the chain, rather than at the ends.

But both chains can be removed from the pendant, and worn as 9 1/2" anklets as well.

The design of the chain is called "Trapped Ball Loop-in-loop". It is constructed from individually hand made fine silver links. Each link has a small ball that was made by melting the end of the link with a torch, forcing the metal to "ball up".

Morgan Hill poppy jasper is getting harder and harder to find. It's also hard to photograph in combination with silver because of the high contrasts between the deep red patterns and the highly reflective metal.

When I made this piece, I was feeling wistful for the ocean, and also a little out of sorts. So I made a tribute to the sand crab (because I was feeling a little crabby :)).
