10 CD spindles made from waste CDs

Teach your friends to spin economically, and keep a few CDs out of the landfills.

The spindles are top whorl and just over 12 inches long with a brass hook on the end. The two CD whorl gives it a nice weight.

In case your class wants to try bottom whorl as well, the whorl can be repositioned.

I was faced with the offer to have a booth at a friends farm day before our spinning wheel was ready for production. I realized, the folks there were probably not yet spinners, and a CD spindle is a great way to learn without too much commitment. For those of us fascinated with beautiful wood knitting needles, we might want to skip straight to the amazing wood turned or hand painted spindles. If you want to teach an entire elementary school class to spin or scout troop, CD spindles are perfect!
