Product Description
I worked this pattern up almost two years ago and am currently feeling a bit odd about it. Its based off a very famous wood block print (details at end of listing). I've haven't decided if I'll retire it or not, but have decided that for a time 90% of sales on it should go to Japanese tsunami and earthquake relief efforts through Paypal. This tutorial is level 3 out of 5. That puts it at an Intermediate level tutorial. Students SHOULD BE ALREADY FAMILAR WITH FLAT EVEN COUNT PEYOTE STITCH before they begin this project and know how to read either a word chart or a beading graph. I do not go over how to read a beading graph in my tutorial, although I do provide links to online tutorials and videos which teach the technique. This is for the tutorial/instruction packet only. Materials are not included. 12 Pages of instruction, in color, discusses the pattern and 8 separate possibilities for clasp techniques as well as an embellishment technique. ---------- Katsushika Hokusai, Japan's best known artist, is ironically Japan's least Japanese artist. Japan's best known woodblock print, The Great Wave, is very un-Japanese. Hokusai (1760-1849) lived during the Tokugawa period (1600 to 1867). In a Japan of traditional Confucian values and feudal regimentation, Hokusai was a thoroughly Bohemian artist: cocky, quarrelsome, restless, aggressive, and sensational. He fought with his teachers and was thrown out of art schools. As a stubborn artistic genius, he was single-mindedly obsessed with art. Hokusai left over 30,000 works, including silk paintings, woodblock prints, picture books, manga, travel illustrations, erotic illustrations, paintings, and sketches. He didn't care much for being sensible or social respect; he signed one of his last works as "The Art-Crazy Old Man". In his 89 years, Hokusai changed his name some thirty times (Hokusai wasn't his real name) and lived in at least ninety homes. --------- This tutorial is sent via email (PDF) upon receipt of payment.
