The first step in making these unique one-of-a-kind Santa ornaments was to sculpt the face. I then made a mold of the face which is used to make the beginning of each ornament. But don't think that this means every face looks the same, the mold is just a starting point! Because of the unique properties of polymer clay, you can tweak, stretch, compress, whatever you want to to create a different look. Each ornament takes on its own personality as it develops.

Once the face is made, each element is added in turn until Santa has his hat, his beard, the brim of his hat and his mustache. Black teardrop beads are added for the eyes and a gold-tone wire hanger completes the structure of the ornament. Once the ornament is cured, an acrylic glaze is used to bring out the details in the beard and hat and a blush is added on the cheeks. A clear sealant is added for protection and Santa is ready to decorate your Christmas tree!

While each of these ornaments vary slightly in length, the average is approximately 4 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. Because of the unique properties of polymer clay, the ornament is lightweight.
