Coppertoned Hawaii

The carnelian beads, both faceted and not, in this necklace bring back that wonderful Coppertone smell. They are knotted on waxed linen and I've placed 7 puca shells from one of my puca necklaces that I bought on that trip on the side.

The centerpiece is a gorgeous piece Ocean Jasper in the shape of an angelfish (about 1.75 x 2.5 inches), reminders of my first snorkeling adventure. Above it is a half of a Vintage Bone Sweater Clip (about 0.75 x 1 inch) that is carved with a fanciful sun motif (or part of a flower!)

Finished off in sterling Silver cones and hook clasp. A Vintage plastic dangle with another tiny bead of carnelian dangles off the back.

There are 2 strands - shorter strand is about 25 inches. The bottom of the fish hangs about 6 inches below the first strand.

Living in California in my early 20's there were always ads in the travel section for cheap 5 day, 4 night trips to Honolulu. Even at the low price, I was only able to swing it once every few years. My first trip was with three girlfriends and we all piled into one room with 2 doublebeds. It WAS paradise! Waikiki Beach was still a wide and deep sandy beach and shopping was fun. Maybe 1/2 the folks that pile into that area now.
