Bear painting necklace using lapis bear beads, amethyst beads, labradorite chips and silver plated beads, cones and clasp. Double strand necklace measures approximately 18" long (lapis bear strand) and 20" long ( hand painted 1.5" pendant strand). This necklace is an original design and the 1.5" diameter miniature pendant painting is a HAND PAINTED original watercolor on canvas.

The mini painting is protected with a surface varnish for lightfast color protection but should not be exposed to liquids or solvents (water, perfume, hairspray, sweat etc.). Care should be taken when wearing the the painting is not pressed against rubbing surfaces such as a seatbelt or tight over clothing. It is an one of a kind piece of original watercolor art to enjoy and needs a little extra care than a mass produced plastic pendant.

This double strand necklace is one of my first wildlife series miniature art pendant paintings. I'm starting with the southwest Native American wildlife, perhaps one of the most identifiable, the bear.

I create the pendant painting first and then let the composition direct me to what stones will compliment. I knew I wanted bear beads in the design, and found these lovely natural lapis lazuli 13mm beads to use. I chose the 3mm amethyst and labradorite chip beads for the sparkle and blue flash that seem to play off the colors of the painting.

The painting is a watercolor pencil black bear on a 1.5" canvas pendant. Working in miniature is more time consuming than one thinks, especially when trying to bring life to the eyes of an animal. Gotta make sure where the brush point is landing!

I think this southwest style wildlife necklace is a nice compliment to a variety of clothing colors, esp. greens, browns, blues, white, black.
