Product Description
THE STORY BEHIND THE WAND
I am often asked what inspired me to make wands. It's a fair question. So I'll answer it:
I had a best friend named Keith. We had been friends since we were teenagers. Very close friends. We loved each other very much.
Over the years, I said, "I wish I had a magic wand. I would fix it for you" many, many times to not only Keith, but everyone I knew who told me of their problems. And for some reason, many people do that. I have thousands of secrets gleaned from the stories of other people's problems.
Keith took to calling me "Ms. Fixit", a long time ago. While he benefited from and often asked for my "Ms. Fixit" skills, he sometimes resented them, too. I think he wanted to fix his own stuff - understandably so. But for some reason, there were always plenty of Keith occasions where I wound up saying that I wished I had a magic wand.
One Christmas season, the two of us agreed that we were both too broke for Christmas shopping. We promised each other that we would make each other's gifts instead of buying them.
A couple of weeks before Christmas, I set aside a day to make Keith's present with no clue at all what it would be. I rifled drawers and closets and looked in boxes and bags. I was searching for some sort of art or craft supplies to use to make him a gift.
I no longer remember the space between searching for materials and the decision to make him a wand, other than that I wound up with some black suede, a hollow brass rod, some Swarovski Crystal beads and stones, and some glue.
I made Keith's wand and he made a gorgeous pen and ink drawing for me. When I opened it, I cried. It was beautiful and I never did figure out why he wouldn't use his amazing talents to take care of himself.
A while after Keith was in possession of his wand, he told me, (with excited, child-like enthusiasm), that he had opened up all of his blinds and looked out on the forest outside his windows, (he had a great view), and did a personal incantation of gratitude, love, and hope. He told me that I should make more wands and offer them for sale.
So I did.
