I cut this Mammoth Ivory from a larger piece of Mammoth Tusk Bark. Bark is the outer layer of the tusk. The color came from the minerals in the ground/water, where it had been buried for about 30,000 years. It is from Russia. Siberia to be exact, and was most likely found by hunters. Black is the dominant color in this one. Black and blue are the rare colors for Ivory. I cut and smoothed the outer layer to reveal the black. A very unique piece. The treatment to the outside edge of the band (small dashes) is called a "coin edge", and is done with a hand engraver.

The Ivory is about 16x18mm..(25mm=1"). Set in a scalloped bezel. The band and silver under the Ivory are very thick (14ga)and the ring is heavy. Over 1/2oz. It is 7mm wide.

The size is a 10.
