A little rusty and beaten up, the vintage Pepsi cooler and worn white wooden bench in this 8x10 photo taken on Route 66 promises refreshment for travelers needing an excuse to step out of the car and stretch their legs for a bit. The cooler itself isn't too rusty or weathered-just enough rust, just enough faded blue and red paint to give it character. On a hot day, any Mother Road traveller would be perfectly happy to grab an icy pop from the cooler, to sit down and enjoy the sunset, to watch the cars roll by on Route 66.

Late-afternoon sun turns the roughened, sand-coloured stone walls of the roadside stop to gold and leaves the paned glass gleaming. Between the blue and red Pepsi-cola cooler and the bench, this little Route 66 spot in Missouri seems like a comfortable, homey place to pull over and chat with the locals for a bit.

Though it's quiet now, this old filling station on 66 will be back in business soon. A new owner has purchased it and is planning to turn it into a tourist spot-complete with soda.
