The Moon has been associated with the Goddess in many cultures.

For the Etruscans Losna was the Moon Goddess who was also associated with the Ocean and Tides.
For the Greeks, Selene was the Titan Goddess of the Moon, whilst for the Romans her name was Luna.
Artemis is the Goddess of Forest and Hills, Childbirth, Virginity, Fertility and the Hunt. For the Romans the Goddess Diana had these attributes too. They are sometimes depicted with a Crescent Moon above their heads.

In Basque myths Ilargi/Ile/Ilazki is the name of the Moon which is a Goddess. She is the daughter of Mother Earth to whom she returns daily.
