I adore the color of these green onyx briolette sterling silver earrings! These gorgeous stones are a deep, true green hue (think of the shade: emerald green). They are opaque, not translucent, but faceted to sparkle. They measure approximately 12 mm wide. Each green onyx bead reminds me of a single leaf of a shamrock.

Since the stones make such an impact, I opted to keep the rest of the design simple. I carefully used sterling silver wire to wrap the top of the stones in a handformed, organic style. The stones are then suspended from sterling silver ear wires. These pierced earrings hang approximately 1.5 inches from the piercing hole.

These earrings would be perfect for formal events, or they can dress up jeans and a simple t-shirt.

Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Green onyx is a hard stone, due to its compact crystalline structure. On the Mohs hardness scale, which ranges from 0 to 10, onyx falls between 6.5 and 7.

I purchased a strand of these stones from a bead store in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. I cannot guarantee that these have not been dyed. In fact, due to the depth of color, it is my personal opinion that they are color-enhanced. Please note that I tested one of the beads by soaking it in a commercial jewelry cleaner called Connoisseurs Silver Cleaner and it remained colorfast.
My preferred method of cleaning is to use a silver polishing cloth on the silver portions and a mild soap solution on the stones.
