This is a Slimline style pen and pencil set turned out of Purple Maple Burl with satin nickel hardware. These are thin writing instrument, a little over 4 1/2 inches long. The pen has a single twist, retractable mechanism that uses a Cross refill.

A bit about of the process of creating these items: I start with a hand-selected bit of wood and the bits that make up the mechanism of the pen and pencil. I then spend some time working the wood to be the proper diameter to match the mechanism. Sand paper is applied, through a number of grits, to get a nice, smooth surface. Several coats of finish are applied and buffed. The wood and mechanisms are then combined to create a unique set of writing instruments.
