Product Description
This is a memory wire bracelet with faceted Czech glass beads in red and white--just like a candy cane! These are Czech glass beads, faceted for extra sparkle. Czech glass has long been considered one of the finest producers in glass beads. This is really more of a bangle bracelet. It is more oval than round, so you are able to slip it on and off easier.
I would say this is a medium. Please LET ME KNOW if you have a larger wrist, 8 inches or more (20cm) or a smaller wrist, 6 inches (15cm). If you have larger wrists, the ends might not meet like a regular bracelet, more like a cuff. On an average wrist of about 7 inches (17.5cm) it will fit like a bangle should, lower on the wrist. If you have a smaller wrist, I can re-size this at NO extra charge, though it might delay your shipment by a day or two.
The last picture represents how your item may arrive. If you'd like gift wrap or other wrap options, please let me know. I'd be happy to do so at no extra charge. I can also bill you, but ship to the recipient, again, at no charge.
**I know International shipping rates look high, however, I do REFUND any overages of a dollar or more. If you would like an exact rate, let me know your country and item you'd like to purchase, and I will get back to you. Otherwise, like I said, I will issue a refund.**
Shipping upgrades are available, including express or UPS, Fed-Ex, etc, but will be extra! Please contact me for more details.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
Around the seventeenth century, European-Christians began to adopt the use of Christmas trees as part of their Christmas celebrations. They made decorations for their trees from foods like cookies and sugar-stick candy. The first historical reference to the familiar cane shape goes back to 1670, when the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany bent them in the shape of a staff, and gave them out to children during the long-winded nativity services.
The clergymen's custom of handing out candy canes during Christmas services spread throughout Europe and later to America. The canes were still white, but sometimes the candy-makers would add sugar-roses to decorate the canes further.
The first historical reference to the candy cane being in America goes back to 1847, when a German immigrant called August Imgard decorated the Christmas tree in his Wooster, Ohio home with candy canes.
About fifty years later the first red-and-white striped candy canes appeared. No one knows who exactly invented the stripes, but Christmas cards prior to the year 1900 showed only all-white candy canes. Christmas cards after 1900 showed illustrations of striped candy canes. Around the same time, candy-makers added peppermint and wintergreen flavors to their candy canes and those flavors then became the traditional favorites.
