This is a clear ornament that I turned into a wintery scene. There is a little pine tree sitting in the middle; it's glued to the ornament so you don't have to worry about it moving around. Then I used a pearly white paint to add snow to the bottom of the ornament and a tiny bit up the sides to create the illusion of small hills. I dabbed a bit on the tree, as well, for a freshly fallen snow look. And for that extra touch, I poured in some coarse iridescent glitter, which helps even more with the illusion of snow.

If you look at the pictures closely, you will see what looks like a small pile of snow at the tree's base. There is also some glitter clinging to the ornament walls. It almost gives the illusion of a snowglobe. Not all of the glitter has been glued down, so it does move freely. The glitter on the walls is not glued at all, so you can tap it a few times if you'd like it clearer. And don't worry--I closed the ornament holes from the inside so no glitter will leak out!

I say Christmas ornament, because we generally associate ornaments with Christmas. But as you can see, there is nothing overtly Christmas about the ornament. If you don't have a tree for whatever reason, there are other ways to use ornaments to decorate your home, and it can be done in a way that doesn't scream "Christmas".

Try a few in a bowl as a centerpiece, perhaps with pine cones or faux fruit. They also look great in a wide-mouthed vase or fish-bowl type of vessel. Use them in wreaths or garlands to add color. They would be welcome in any gift baskets you may be giving out this season. If you have a little basket or bowl of guest soaps in your restrooms, this would be a pretty way to add color and charm.

I didn't think I would manage this one. I knew what I wanted but not how to get it there. It was easy enough to get the tree in there, but I didn't just want it in there. I wanted it to stand straight, glued to the bottom of the ornament. That was tougher, because pressure had to be applied to the tree for the glue to properly adhere the tree to the bottom of the ornament. And I can't even get a finger in through that hole up top, so there was no way I could possibly hold the tree.

I figured out a way to lowered the tree into the ornament in a controlled manner, and even figured out a way to apply the needed pressure. But try as I might, I was never able to unhook to device from tree during 'practice runs'.

I have no idea how I managed it, but I finally rigged up some wiring that I thought would work. After the glue had set, it took a few tries to unhook the wiring from the tree to get it out of the ornament, and for a moment I thought it wouldn't work. But it did, as you can see, and things went quite smoothly from there.
