Trocha Shell Zuni Style Turtle * Necklace

This necklace is made from all natural trocha shell, real green adventurine and New China Jade. It is a one of a kind piece of jewelry. There is no other one like it on the planet. I never make two identical pieces of jewelry unless custom ordered.

The length of this necklace including the goldtone findings and gold toggle clasp measure 28 1/2 inches.

The mother turtle measures: 2 1/2" by 1 1/2" and the baby turtles measure: 1/2" by 7/8".

With proper care, this necklace will last for generations.

THE LEGEND OF TURTLE ISLAND AND EARTH'S CREATION

Turtles are sacred to Native Peoples. This is one of the reasons I honor the turtle in my creations. There are many different clans among the Native peoples including the Turtle Clan. The following story is told throughout Indian country. Also, North America, when viewed from space resembles the shape of the turtle. Earth is referred to as Turtle Island. Legend tells of a time when all the animals lived in the water and all the people lived in the sky. One day the animals saw one of the sky people falling toward them. They know this person would not know how to swim, so they decided to make a place for sky person to land. Turtle volunteered it's back, telling the other animals to bring a mouthful of mud and place it on it's back so sky person had a place to land on. Many animals tried to bring the mud up from the bottom of the water but had no success. Finally, muskrat said I will try and succeeded in this task. The mud grew large enough for sky person to land on. When sky person landed, it was discovered it was a woman, ready to give birth, which she did to a daughter, who became world (mother earth). There are variations of the creation of the earth, which we in Indian country still call Turtle Island ,even to this day.
