Needlefelted Phoenix MidEast Legend

Product Description
This is our very own needle felted interpretation of the Phoenix mythology, with a female companion protecting the egg and therefore becoming part of the cycle or renewal and opportunity.

Our Phoenix measures appr. 10, has solid copper wire in the legs which are attached to a mosaic cube of an ancient byzantine floor (yes you can find those in our fields).
The base covering is from wet-felted wool around a pebble for the shape. The flamingo stands therefore very solid on its own.

The little lady is totally needle felted and so is the egg and the tabouret she sits on.

This felted one of a kind art work is meant for display as you can see in the pictures and not for play by very small children, due to the wiring and the small seedbead eyes of the flamingo.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
The Phoenix is a legendary, beautiful, brightly colored bird of great size. Its plumage resembles the flames it rises from upon its rebirth....
The Phoenix is known in the folklore of many countries. One inspiration that has been suggested for the Egyptian phoenix is the flamingo of East Africa. This bird nests on salt flats that are too hot for its eggs or chicks to survive; it builds a mound several inches tall and large enough to support its egg, which it lays in that marginally cooler location. The convection currents around these mounds resembles the turbulence of a flame.
