A beautiful 1895 engraving gleaned from Morris's epic work, "History of British Birds", compiled and published at the direction of Queen Victoria. Here we see featured the "Hobby".

The heavy, captioned paper is top tipped in gold, blank on its reverse, and measures 6.75" x 10" (17x25 cm). The paper is smooth and clean, the engraving is strong and clear, and the hand coloring is bright and vivid. The heavy paper has no creases, folds, marks, or tears.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
Rev. Francis Orpen Morris (1810-1893), Irish ornithologist and entomologist, was notable as the author of many children's books and books on natural history and heritage buildings.

The inspiration for Francis Orpen Morris's A History of British Birds actually came from the renowned English printer, Benjamin Fawcett, who approached Morris to write the text when Morris became Vicar of Nafferton.

Reverend Morris had a reputation as a popular writer on natural history in general and birds in particular. His first book, 'Guide to an Arrangement of British Birds', had appeared as early as 1834. However, his association with Benjamin Fawcett was to have remarkable results, particularly for the study of ornithology.
