Use this black, embroidered tote bag over and over to carry your groceries and other goodies home in style. The embroidery design features a koi fish surrounded by water weeds rendered in a dramatic, damask style. The design is roughly circular, and measures just under five inches by five inches. A black background makes the deep golden yellow thread stand out boldly from a distance.

This environmentally-friendly bag is made out of polypropylene: a lightweight, sturdy, non-woven material. It is the same type of bag that you commonly see as a re-usable shopping bag at the grocery store. However, this one has been carefully embroidered to be far more interesting. (It also lacks any particular company logos.) As polypropylene is surprisingly strong for its weight, this bag is both sturdy and beautiful. It's also great for showcasing your love of Japanese art and culture in an eco-friendly way. The koi fish, also known as "nishikigoi" or brocaded carp, have been featured as a traditional motif in Japanese art for centuries. In Japanese, "koi" is pronounced the same as the word for "affection" or "love", making it a common symbol of love and friendship. They were first bred for a variety of colors in Japan during the 1820s. (Their cousin, the goldfish, was first bred in China during the Song Dynasty and lacks barbels at the mouth.)

Koi fish come in white, black, red, yellow, blue, and cream. If desired, I can embroider a bag with one of these other colors. Please use the comments section during checkout to specify a custom color. Entire design will be rendered in that color. Please allow up to 2 weeks to comlete custom orders.
