Cocoon Beads: Very clever!
Submitted by Eni On Tue, 07/21/2009 - 11:41
This is a very clever design: by using simple tools (just plain pliers) and minimal wire, the artist manages to create a very organic and handmade forged-looking bead. I was at loss to figure out how she did it before I saw the tutorial. Once I read it, I thought: "brilliantly simple!".
Although I have not completed the tutorial yet, I believe the main challenge is to work without annealing the silver, which would require some human strength, as the Teacher well points out.
NEW and EDITED: when I first wrote this review, my only complaint about the teaching itself was that I wished the Teacher had shown more detail on how to hold the pliers around step 8. Very shortly after I posted the review, the Teacher updated the tutorial based on my comments -- which shows exceptional professionalism and receptiveness.
Everything else looks pretty good - the Teacher is fun and the pictures are very good.
Design: I give them 5 stars for the handmade forged look.
Technique: Also 5 stars for being so clever in making a bead with such minimal materials.
Images: I originally gave it 4 stars due to some minimal blurry images, but again, those were updated and they are much better! So now I give it 5 stars.
Teaching: I give it a 5 stars for being open to commentary and for just caring so much for the students!
Overall: I give it 5 stars, for sheer inventiveness!
