Quilling Blue Heron in Flight wall art framed papercrafts original

This is my Blue Heron in Flight, handcrafted by me in my New Hampshire studio. It is made with tiny rolls of paper carefully placed under my own cut out. It is my original design and one of my 8" x 10" quilled and custom framed "WildLife Scenes". It is triple matted and framed in a brown frame as shown. This heron would look great paired with another of my heron designs.

Blue Herons are my favorite bird, as we see them all the time in New Hampshire on the Merrymeeting River.


What is Quilling?
Quilling is a very old craft. Its name comes of the old practice of trimming the gold edges from books, and then winding the narrow strips of paper around feather quills, using the quill for the tool. Once rolled into circles and pinched into various shapes, the paper is used as texture and detail in pictures.

My own technique uses the quill work as a background and details to cut-outs of wildlife. The quill work simulates the feathers in the duck and birds, the scales on the fish, the veins in the wildflowers, and the fur on the moose.

Herons are my favorite, so I have designed quite a few. They make a wonderful pair when hung together.

A little more information about my work -- I do everything from the beginning to the end of each and every piece...Just Me. I start with the design work, the cutting of the overlay with an exacto knife, the rolling of the quilling paper, by hand, the glueing, the cutting of the mats, the cutting of the glass, the putting-it-all-together in the frame under glass, the photographing and all the website work.........if you have any questions, please email me.
