Product Description
This is my Quilled Pink Lady's Slipper, handcrafted by me in my New Hampshire studio. It is my original design. It is one of my 8" x 10" quilled and custom framed "WildFlowers". It is triple matted and framed in a honey oak frame as shown. It would be beautiful paired with one of my other wildflowers like the showy lady's slipper or the sunflower.
What is Quilling?
Quilling is a very old craft. Its name comes of the old practice of trimming the gold edges from books, and then winding the narrow strips of paper around feather quills, using the quill for the tool. Once rolled into circles and pinched into various shapes, the paper is used as texture and detail in pictures.
My own technique uses the quill work as a background and details to cut-outs of wildlife. The quill work simulates the feathers in the duck and birds, the scales on the fish, the veins in the wildflowers, and the fur on the moose.
Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
I love WildFlowers.........I design mostly native flowers to New Hampshire, but if I see another flower I really love, off I go with a new design. Some of the designs are requests from my friends.
These 8"x10" pieces are wonderful works of art. They show that my quilling has truly crossed the fence and moved from craft to art.
The designs in these pieces represent what I see in my everyday life -- unless I receive a special request, like the flamingo (in case you didn't know, we do have flamingos in New Hampshire, but they are plastic!)
What is your favorite?? I design on approval, which means I design, email you a photo, and you can purchase or not. And as always, satisfaction guaranteed.
More Info
A little more information about my work -- I do everything from the beginning to the end of each and every piece...Just Me. I start with the design work, the cutting of the overlay with an exacto knife, the rolling of the quilling paper, by hand, the glueing, the cutting of the mats, the cutting of the glass, the putting-it-all-together in the frame under glass, the photographing and all the website work.........if you have any questions, please email me.
As a gardener this picture strikes a deep chord with me. Lady's slipper orchids are an amazing gift of nature and this intricate, beautifully crafted image captures their spirit.
