Most beaded hatbands are woven flat because it's faster that way. This one however, is beaded all the way around the 1/4" gold cord for a diameter of about 1/2." This type of hatband is a lot harder to find (and more expensive when you do) for the obvious reasons. There's not another hatband like this anywhere in the world!

It is beaded--one bead at a time--in transparent rainbow lilac, ceylon gray, and transparent amber rainbow beads around a gold colored rayon cord.

Generally, the trim on these types of hatbands is horsehair. I don't have a horse! But I do have lots of deerhides that I've tanned over the years. So the trim on this is white-tailed deer hair. Looks really cool, too!

If you know anything about this type of beaded hatband, and the popularity of white-tailed deer hides and hair, then you know you're getting a bargain here!

My mother had to have her pacemaker replaced last week in what was supposed to be an in-and-out day surgery. Well, as often happens, things didn't go as planned. The surgery ahead of her had complications. So we spent almost all day waiting for her turn for the operating room. The main section is 20 inches long--almost as long as the day turned out to be. I started this in the waiting room and 8 hours later had something like 12 inches beaded. It was a delightful conversation piece in the waiting room and helped initiate many conversations among family members waiting for news of their loved ones surgeries. I'm glad I decided on this as my "pass the time" project! I hope that whoever buys this piece will enjoy its unique one-of-a-kind nature. I WON'T be making another one like it! Maybe in different colors I will, but not like this! The surgery (when it finally happened) went just fine, and after a weekend of beading and caring for my mother, the hatband too, is now finished.
