This wood sculpture of a Mongolian Wild Horse has been hand carved from basswood and painted using an airbrush to achieve the delicate colors.

Przewalskis Horse or Mongolian Wild Horse once inhabited the steppes and semi-deserts of southern Siberia, Mongolia and western China. They are extinct, or very nearly so, in the wild.

This one is a nice size to hold in hand: 7.5 x 12 x 2 centimeters, or 3 x 4.7 x 1 inches.

Thank you for looking at this sculpture, which is entirely designed and created by artist Sandra Healy; if you have any questions, please click the contact button below.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

Though my animal carvings are not very thick, I use various carving and painting techniques to suggest a much rounder figure. It is a unique method, like a three dimensional relief carving, which I have developed since I started in 1975.

HOW I WORK: Rather than using a power carver, I enjoy using knives and chisels to finish shaping the basswood. As well as being quiet and meditative, this gives crisper details.

After sanding the animal smooth, I use an airbrush to paint the colors. Finally, 3 coats of water-based urethane are brushed on, and the sculpture is signed on the bottom.

Materials Used

wood, paint, ink, urethane finish

Welcome to my world of animal carvings!

Please ask if you have any questions about ordering, or about my work, or about my descriptions.

Most items are shiped USPS First-Class (Usually 2-5 days in US not guaranteed, variable time internationally).

Usually I ship the next day; I will let you know via email. Occasionally I am traveling in which case it may take a little longer to hear from me.

INTERNATIONAL orders are welcome!
Unfortunately, there is no tracking available, and no prediction as to when it will arrive; it could be as long as a month. And then, as you probably know better than I do, you will have to pay any customs fees.

If you are not pleased with your sculpture you may return it and I will refund the cost (but not shipping).
