The front of this folded card shows a scene from northern Alaska, hiking up a ridge looking for Caribou. I used an airbrush to paint the original; this is an inkjet print about 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 centimeters). The inside is blank, ready for your own greeting or note, and an envelope is also included.


Printed on the back: Five Caribou, a painting by Sandra Healy. Hiking on the north slope of Alaska we were always looking for the caribou which are such a part of the landscape. Here are five, and a ptarmigan.

On a kayaking trip down the Nuka and Colville rivers, we often hiked, and always looked for animals. We saw many, including caribou, wolves and grizzly bears, and a lot of birds such as the ptarmigan which is in my painting.

In the wilderness there are many animals, but they are hard to see. I enjoy painting the beautiful scenes I enjoy while hiking, and hide animals in it to reflect this reality.

Since I have used an airbrush for many years to paint my animal wood carvings, when I started painting that was naturally the tool I used. I gives the colors a softness which I enjoy. I spray through stencils which I have cut, to give harder edges.
