This Wolverine carving is made of wood (basswood), and painted with an airbrush, which gives the soft color gradations.

The carving is a nice size to hold in your hand: 5.5 x 12 x 2 centimeters (2.2 x 4.7 x 1 inches).

When I carve this animal, it reminds me of the time I had the good fortune to see a Wolverine high in alpine country while backpacking in Canada.

To create this wolverine, I use knives and chisels, not a power carver, to finish shaping the basswood. This technique gives crisper details. It is sanded smooth, and an airbrush or watercolor brush used to apply water-based inks, with some details being burned In. It is finished with 3 coats of water-based urethane, and signed on the bottom.

Within the one inch thickness, using carving and painting techniques, I suggest a more fully round figure. It is a unique style, which I have developed over more than 30 years.
