i made this necklace from three strands and two different kinds of antiqued brass chain. the strands are 15", 16" and 17" with an authentic antique key from England attached to it. the closure is a lobster clasp and has a short amount of chain making it adjustable in length.

although i have polished it, there may be a slight amount of rust on the key adding to it's character.

The antique keys that i use came from England almost 30 years ago. "Blue Peter," the long-running BBC children's program has often promoted fund raisers for various charities. In this instance, the program encouraged children from 'throughout the land' to send in their parents' no-longer used keys. They received keys of every kind, from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. These were sold to an antique dealer in Seattle, with the proceeds presented to Oxfam, the charitable organization.
Eventually, this huge collection of keys made it's way to my supplier where to their knowledge, it represents one of the largest collections of antique keys in the world: Estimated at several tons & containing somewhere between 400,000 and 700,000 keys!
