Copper earrings, hearts & swirls, niobium wires,

Handmade from copper clay. Love the warm brown of copper but allergic to copper earwires? No problem! These ear wires look like copper but are actually annodized Niobium (see below). These copper charms have a patina on them so the detail of the hearts and swirls shows up against the brown copper background. The last picture shows the charms without a patina. If you would like to order some without a patina, please convo me.

I made the copper heart charms from copper clay. This is a material made from particles of real copper mixed with an organic binder. It is similar to clay. After the charms are formed, dried and sanded, they are fired in charcoal at about 1600 degrees Farenhiegt. All the organic binder burns out and only the copper is left.



Niobium is a relative of titanium. It is very hypo-allergenic. I can't wear regular sterling silver, but I can wear Niobium and also Argentium Sterling.) When electrical current is applied to Niobium it will change colors. This is called annodizing.
