** These unique, one of a kind drop earrings are made from my last two of these wonderfully bright multicolor boro lampwork glass beads.

** They are long... nearly 2 1/4 inches (5.7 cm)

** These lampwork beads are orange, blue, purple, and red, and like all borosilicate beads, appear different colors in different light; different shades inside then when you wear them outside.

** The beads are accompanied by sterling silver accessories and hang from my hand formed sterling silver rectangular geometric shaped ear wires.

NOTE: The lampwork beads I purchase are from self representing artists. This means that the artist that has sold the bead to me is actually the artist that created the bead with their own two hands. It's important to me that, when possible, I know where the components I use in my jewelry are created. Plus, it's always a benefit for me to support other small business artisans in their work. Well, and the fact that the colors and shapes and designs of artisan created beads just aren't possible in mass created factory made beads.

So what's the difference between boro glass beads and traditional lampwork beads? Lampwork beads are made by melting and working glass over a flame, generally some sort of torch. While there are many different types of glass that can be used, the two types you will note most often are soft glass and hard glass (also known as Pyrex or borosilicate, or just plain boro), which can be used to make anything from pendants and beads to goblets and small bowls. Boro, short for borosilicate, is tougher to work with, but, like pyrex, is much more durable. Boro beads also tend to shift color, appearing one shade inside and another outside in daylight. This is one of the reasons I like to use it in my jewelry.
