Inspiration/Story Behind This Product
A Fat Quarter is a quarter of a yard of fabric that has been "cut the other way".

Normally a yard of fabric is a piece that is 9 inches long (length is measured along the salvage edge or the warp

threads), by the width of the fabric. In the USA, most of our fabric comes 45", 60", or 108" wide with upholstry and

drapery often coming in at 48" and 54" inches wide.

While a piece 9"x45" has its uses, it is often more useful if the piece was a bit wider. And although you could just buy

more fabric, the cost goes up and often a person doesn't need THAT much fabric. So a Fat Quarter was born.

A Fat Quarter is still a quarter of a yard, but now it twice as long (along the salvage or warp threads) and only 1/2 the

width of the fabric. This gives you a piece that is 18" long by roughly 22" wide.

Almost all 100% cotton fabric used in quilts and crafts are said to be 45" wide. However, in reality a 45" fabric can vary

between 44" and 46". This can be caused by a number of things in the manufacturing processes. Just think of it like a 2x4

from the lumber yard. If you have ever measured one, you will find that they are almost never 2x4!
