I am always looking for fun things to carve, and my latest carving is an antique fishing net float from Maine.

This Santa measures approximately 2" wide and 5" high, and he has great carved details from his eyebrows to the grooves in his beard.

After carving, I painted him with acrylics adding his eyes, the stars and some red around his face to add to the original patina.



I then sealed antiqued signed and dated and sealed this piece again for lasting enjoyment.

There is a hole on top of the float where the fishing net rope once went through, which could hold a thin candle. This carving does stand by itself, but if using a candle place on a non flammable surface:)
